Considerations in Product Design of NC Spinning Thin-wall Parts

Spinning thin-wall parts are widely used in various industries, such as automotive shock absorbers, military accessories, lighting lampshades, hardware tableware and so on. Many designers need to consider the capacity of spinning process when designing thin-walled parts.

1. About the thinning rate of CNC spinning processing
Many designers have a deviation in the understanding of the thinning rate of spinning processing, the thinning rate of common stamping and drawing is generally about 10%, and the thinning rate of manual spinning is about 10%, but the maximum thinning rate of the material is about 40% due to the shear force. However, the strength of CNC spinning parts with the same wall thickness is better than that of stamping and stretching. For thin-walled parts under internal pressure, the strength of stamped and stretched parts is very poor, it is easy to crack, and welded coil parts are also easy to crack. The best way to improve the strength of the product is to spin the whole spinning.
 
2.The processing limits of CNC spinning
At present, the general thickness of the market CNC spinning machine stainless steel plate is 3mm thick, strong spinning is generally 4mm, aluminum plate is 6mm thick, strong spinning is 8mm, iron plate spinning is 4mm, and strong spinning is 5mm. Stainless steel straight barrel height of more than 200mm, it is generally easy to crack, when the height of the straight barrel is more than 200mm, you can consider making a head at the bottom, and then roll welding a round tube, the head and round tube in welding. Iron straight drum height maximum spinning 400mm, aluminum due to the good ductility of the material itself, the height will exceed 700mm, but considering the general market spinning machine stripping length is generally 500mm, so the maximum height of the aluminum drum is best designed 500mm.

3.About the stability of CNC spinning products
Usually, the precision of thin wall parts of stamping and drawing will be better than spinning, but in the case of long working time, or in the case of parts themselves heating up, the stability of CNC spinning products at different temperatures to maintain accuracy and strength is better than other processes, which is the advantage of spinning products, which is the biggest reason why most military accessories are made by spinning process.
 
4.About the thickness distribution of spinning products
The thickness of CNC spinning products is not evenly distributed, because the thinning rate of shear spinning and floating knife ordinary spinning is not the same, but when the taper product is strong spinning, the taper wall thickness of the spinning product can reach the average thickness, such as the strong spinning processing of the drug cover of military accessories. The thickness of the bottom of the plate spinning product is generally not much different from the thickness of the blank material, because it has not been thinned here. However, the bottom diameter and the maximum diameter of the product are very different, and the wall thickness of the bottom will still vary slightly.

5.How to improve the local strength of thin-wall spinning products
For example, for 200mm diameter spinning products, when the metal wall thickness is less than 1.0mm, the local strength of the product is not very good, and the strength of the product needs to be considered.

6.About the surface grain effect of spinning products
The general treatment of the surface of the spinning product is polishing or stretching, oxidation, painting. The calendered surface of aluminum parts can be dusted or sandblasted without polishing diameter to cover the spinning grain, but the oil injection, electroplating, oxidation color needs to be stretched on the surface.
